Editing UV Channels

Copy & Swap UV Channels

Copying or swapping UV Channels in Unwrella-IO is a straightforward process, designed to be intuitive and efficient. This functionality is particularly useful when you need to duplicate or exchange UV mapping data between different channels. To copy or swap UV Channels, follow these simple steps:

Initiate the Process:

Begin by locating the UV Channel icon in the UV Channel Sidebar. Click and hold this icon to ‘grab’ it.

Drag to Desired Slot:

With the UV Channel icon grabbed, drag it towards another UV Slot. As you hover over a different slot, you’ll notice that the slot divides into a horizontal split area, presenting you with three options: ‘Copy’, ‘Swap’ and ‘Quick Pack’.

Copy:

If you choose ‘Copy,’ the UV data from the channel you’re dragging will be duplicated into the target slot. This action overwrites any existing data in that slot with the new copied data. It’s a useful feature when you want to replicate UV mapping data across multiple channels without altering the original.

Swap:

Selecting ‘Swap’ will interchange the UV data between the dragged channel and the target slot. This action is beneficial when you want to reorganize or reorder your UV Channels without the need to manually redo the UV mapping.

Quick Pack

The ‘Quick Pack’ feature is a highly useful tool that allows you to efficiently transfer and repack all existing UV charts from one slot to another with a simple drag-and-drop action.
To quick-pack content of an UV Channels, follow these simple steps:

Quick Pack:

If you drag a UV slot onto another and drop it into a “Quick Pack” field, the UV data from the source channel will be automatically packed into the target slot. This action replaces any existing data in the target slot with the newly packed UV layout, ensuring a fast and efficient uv packing process.

The drag-and-drop mechanism in Unwrella-IO enhances efficiency of the UV channel management, enabling you to intuitively and quickly sort and organize UV mapping sets for seamless export into your DCC application.

Select UVs

Clicking the “Select” icon at the top of the UV slot highlights all objects in the viewport that have their UVs unwrapped in the active slot. This feature is particularly useful for quickly identifying and outlining multiple objects, providing a clear overview of which assets have already been processed and which contain unwrapped UVs in the active UV slot.

ℹ️
It’s important to note that the “Select” function actively records and monitors all changes within the current UV channel. For example, if you delete all UVs from an object, this action is recognized as a modification to the UV structure. As a result, clicking the “Select” button will still highlight all affected objects in the viewport, even if no UV charts remain! This behavior ensures that any change in UV structure — such as a complete UV deletion — is properly tracked and reflected in the selection process.

Delete UV Channels

To delete a UV Channel in Unwrella-IO, simply click the Trash Icon on the right side of the interface.

Rename UV Channels

To rename a UV Channel in Unwrella-IO, click on the text field located above the UV Slot and enter the new name you desire.

ℹ️
If you rename a UV Channel while no object is selected or multiple objects are selected, the new UV name will apply to all sub-object UV names. This feature allows for the simultaneous renaming of multiple assets. However, you can also select any specific object in the scene at any time and enter a new UV name exclusively for that selected object.
