Navigation and Interaction
Navigating the Scene
Orbiting, Panning, Zooming
Packer-IO facilitates intuitive navigation within the viewport, similar to other 3D applications. Upon importing an object, it is automatically optimally fitted within the viewport. The default viewport navigation is set to mimic Blender’s style. However, you can easily switch to a different navigation mode in the Settings Menu to align with the navigation behavior of your preferred 3D application.
Orbit Viewport
To orbit around the object, press and hold the Middle Mouse Button (MMB), then move the mouse.
Zoom Viewport
To zoom in or out within the viewport, use the scroll wheel on the Middle Mouse Button (MMB).
For a smooth, stepless zoom, hold CTRL + Middle Mouse Button (MMB), then move the mouse up or down.
Pan Viewport
To pan the viewport, hold SHIFT + Middle Mouse Button (MMB) and move the mouse in any direction.
Navigate UV-Map
To navigate the unwrapped UV-Map, utilize the same viewport panning technique as described earlier.
- To pan the viewport, hold SHIFT + Middle Mouse Button (MMB) and move the mouse in any direction.
- To zoom in or out within the viewport, use the scroll wheel on the Middle Mouse Button (MMB).
For a smooth, stepless zoom, hold CTRL + Middle Mouse Button (MMB), then move the mouse up or down.
Changing the Navigation Settings and Keboard Shortcuts
To customize the keyboard shortcuts, navigate to the “Settings” menu. Here, you can select your preferred 3D application to simulate its viewport navigation style.
For modifying keyboard shortcuts for various actions such as importing objects, saving, toggling wireframe or seam overlays, etc., simply click on the button displaying the current shortcut. Then, press the key you wish to assign as the new shortcut. This change is immediate and will be saved as the default shortcut for future use.

Selecting Objects
Selecting objects in Packer-IO is straightforward.
- Single Entity Objects: If your object consists of only one entity, it is automatically selected for UV packing. No additional actions are required.
- Multiple Sub-Objects: In cases where your object comprises multiple sub-objects, you can select one or several of them with a simple click. To select multiple sub-objects, hold the SHIFT key and click on each sub-object you wish to include in your selection Selected sub-objects will be highlighted in a different color. Only these selected and highlighted sub-objects will be considered for UV packing, while the rest will be ignored.
- No Selection: If no specific selection is made, the entire scene will be automatically considered for UV packing. Again, no further actions are needed.
