Unwrap

Unwrap button - Automatically generates the UV map with the optimally arranged charts.

Quick Pack

Quick Pack automatically repacks all existing UV charts on the current UV sheet - without altering your individual unwrapping settings.

This feature is especially useful during workflows where you unwrap multiple objects one by one using different unwrapping modes (e.g., Organic, Hard Surface, etc.). Instead of reselecting all objects and using the general Pack function - which would override your custom unwrapping setup - Quick Pack simply reorganizes the existing UV islands efficiently.

✅ Ideal for fast, non-destructive UV layout updates
✅ Keeps your object-specific unwrapping settings intact
✅ Saves time when managing complex multi-object unwrapping tasks

Stats

The “Stats” field provides key information about the results of the unwrapping process. Once unwrapping is complete, three values are displayed:

  • UV Space Usage (%): Shows the percentage of the UV area that has been efficiently packed.
  • Texel Density: Displays the average texel density value, indicating how evenly texture resolution is distributed across the UVs.
  • Unwrap Time: Shows how long the unwrapping process took to complete (in seconds).

These statistics help you evaluate the quality and efficiency of the UV layout at a glance.

Combine

This option determines how packing of multiple objects is handled when an instance of UV-Packer is applied to multiple objects at once.

When Combine is enabled the charts of the objects are packed together into the same UV space so that they can share a texture. If it’s disabled each object receives its own independent UV packing without affecting chart placements of other objects.

Functionality of Combine:

  • Enabled: When the Combine option is activated, Unwrella treats the UV charts of all selected objects as a unified set. This means that the charts from different objects are packed together into the same UV space. The primary advantage of this approach is that it allows multiple objects to share a single texture map, optimizing texture usage and consistency across objects.
  • Disabled: If the Combine option is turned off, each object is treated independently in the UV packing process. In this scenario, UnwrellaConnect ensures that the packing of one object’s UV charts does not influence or alter the chart placements of another object. This results in each object receiving its unique UV packing, which is particularly useful when individual textures or distinct UV layouts are required for each object. UnwrellaConnect Window Application Scenarios:
  • When to Enable: Combining is most effective when working on projects where texture uniformity across multiple objects is desired, or when aiming to minimize the number of texture maps used in a scene.
  • When to Disable: Disabling this feature is advantageous in scenarios where objects need to maintain separate textures or when specific UV layouts are required for individual objects, such as in cases where objects have varying levels of detail or receive different shading treatments.

Selection

When the “Selection” option is enabled, Unwrella will only unwrap and pack the selected objects or the selected faces within those objects.

This allows for more precise control, especially when working on complex models where only specific parts need to be updated or optimized.

Object Unwrap Indicator

The Object Unwrap Indicator - represented by an upside-down triangle icon - shows which object(s) are currently selected for unwrapping. This helps you quickly identify the active target(s) for the UV unwrapping operation within your scene.

Keep Borders

When the “Keep Borders” option is enabled, Unwrella will retain all existing UV seams and island borders during the unwrapping process. This means:

  • Existing UV borders will be prioritized when generating new seams.
  • Unwrella will attempt to unwrap within the current UV islands whenever possible.
  • Only if necessary will it modify or extend the layout—ensuring minimal disruption to your original UV structure.

This option is ideal for refining or optimizing UVs without losing existing UV island borders and layouts.

Use Marks

When this option is enabled, Unwrella will preserve all marked UV seams on the mesh during the unwrapping process. Instead of just generating new seams on its own, Unwrella will prioritize the marked seams you’ve already created, unfolding the UV islands based on your manual seam layout. This is especially useful when you want to maintain more control over how your UVs are split and organized.

In specific cases, such as when using the Organic or Mosaic mode, Unwrella may detect excessive UV stretching. If this occurs, the system will automatically generate additional seams where necessary to optimize the UV layout while minimizing distortion.

Stretch

This input defines the amount of stretching allowed. 0 means no stretching is allowed, 1 means any amount of stretching can be used. It helps control UV distortion by optimizing the way UV charts are relaxed and distributed, ensuring a more balanced texture representation.

The Stretch Factor setting is only applicable when using the Organic or Mosaic unwrapping modes. This setting has no effect when using the Hard Surface mode.

Hard Surface Angle

This value defines the largest total angle by which a UV may bend over the geometry surface. Charts are cut to prevent any angles from going past this limit. Smaller values create more charts with less stretching, higher values create less charts with more stretching.

ℹ️
The Hard Surface Angle setting is only applicable when using the Hard Surface unwrapping mode. This setting has no effect when using the Organic or Mosaic modes.

Cut Grooves

The Cut Grooves option automatically adds UV seams to edges that form grooves in the geometry. The placement of these seams is determined by the angle threshold setting.

If the angle between the surface normals exceeds the specified threshold, a seam will be added. This helps optimize UV unwrapping by ensuring that sharp grooves and deep recesses are properly accounted for in the UV layout.

Cut Ridges

The Cut Ridges option automatically adds UV seams to edges that form ridges in the geometry. The placement of these seams is determined by a defined angle threshold.

If the angle between the surface normals exceeds the specified threshold, a seam will be created. This helps improve UV unwrapping by ensuring that sharp ridges and raised edges are properly segmented for better texture mapping.

The following video demonstrates how to use Cut Ridges and Cut Grooves to achieve a clean and precise UV unfold.

These features help guide the unwrapping process by defining optimal cut lines, resulting in a more accurate and distortion-free UV layout.

Cut Holes

The Cut Holes option automatically detects open holes in the mesh and generates UV seams extending outward from them. This prevents gaps in the UV map and often results in better UV relaxation, allowing for a more evenly distributed UV grid.

While this option can improve unwrapping quality in many cases, there are situations where cutting holes is not desirable. If unwanted seams appear, you may choose to disable this option. Since there is no absolute rule on when to use it, experimentation is recommended to achieve the most suitable result for your specific model.
