Properties Rollout

This rollout provides access to licensing information, as well as options for importing and exporting skinning data.

Properties UI

Export

The Export button opens a menu that allows you to export BonesPro data in different formats.

Available Export Formats

  • BonesPro Data Format (*.bpm)
A binary file format that contains the complete BonesPro setup, including all bone and vertex data.

  • Structure
Exports the full bone and vertex rig setup as a plain text (ASCII) file.
This represents a snapshot of the moment the mesh was bound to the skeleton and does not include animation data.

  • Animation
Stores bone and vertex data over a specified animation range in a plain text (ASCII) file.

Import

The Import button opens a file dialog that allows you to load previously saved .bpm files.

Skin Export

Skin Export creates a new Skin modifier on top of the modifier stack and transfers the current BonesPro deformation data to it.

For a detailed description of converting BonesPro to SkinModifer vertex weights, see the chapter BonesPro Skin Export. Skin Import & Export

Skin Import

Skin Import reads deformation data from the topmost Skin modifier in the stack and applies it to the BonesPro modifier. For a detailed description of converting Skin weights to BonesPro vertex weights, see the chapter BonesPro Skin Import. Skin Import & Export

About

Displays general information about the BonesPro plug-in.

Options

The Options button opens the BonesPro settings panel, where you can configure the following parameters:

Minimum Width

Defines a minimum size for bone influence calculations.

By default, the size of the bone object determines its influence area.
In cases where bones have no visible size, this setting can be used to enforce a consistent influence region.

Tolerance

Defines the minimum influence a bone must have on a vertex to be considered.

  • Default: 1%
  • Bones with less influence are ignored to improve performance

This optimization has minimal visual impact but significantly speeds up calculations.
Setting this value to 0% ensures all influences are evaluated for maximum accuracy.

Default Strength

Sets the default strength value for bones that do not have a custom strength assigned.

Default Falloff

Sets the default falloff value for bones without an explicit override.

Show Information Messages

Enables or disables informational messages displayed during certain operations.

Show Confirmation Messages

⚠️
It is recommended to keep these enabled, as they often warn about major changes to the rig.

Allow End Result Toggle

Controls whether the “Show End Result” option in the modifier stack can be enabled while working with BonesPro.

By default, this is disabled because modifiers above BonesPro may alter mesh topology, making vertex-based editing unreliable.

In some workflows, you may prefer to see the final result while editing. This option allows you to enable that behavior.

⚠️
Note: Vertex display and selection may behave unexpectedly when the end result is active, as edits are still based on the original mesh state.

Colors

Allows customization of visualization colors in the viewport:

  • Bone selection colors
  • Weight/strength gradient display
  • Dual quaternion blending visualization colors

These settings help improve clarity when analyzing deformation and weighting.
